Jetplane Review: Belkin Sport Armband for iPhone

Posted on May 22, 2008 in iPhone, Reviews

I’ve recently taken up jogging and the iPhone has been a great tool in helping me to motivate myself to get out the door. I use the stopwatch to keep track of my running times and of course the iPod app to play music and podcasts to keep myself occupied.

After carrying the iPhone in its Artwizz Seejacket case for a few days (which honestly wasn’t that bad), I decided to purchase the Belkin Sport Armband. Here’s some impressions after using it for a few days.

  • The iPhone is strapped very securely to your arm. I was worried it might dangle or wobble a bit, but it’s rock solid and very comfortable whilst running. Both sides of the velcro strip are fairly long, so there’s also no danger of it coming loose.
  • The key pocket is so tiny, it’s almost useless for anything except gym locker keys. But I stuff the excess headphone cord that gets in my where inside, so it has its uses.
  • There are symbols on the side to indicate where the volume controls are, which is a nice touch.
  • The touchscreen is still very useable, despite the clear plastic window that covers it.
  • There’s an opening at the top of the case, so if you plan on going jogging in the rain, I’d stuffing something up there to keep your iPhone dry.

Overall I think it’s a great case that’s well worth the purchase if you feel like taking your iPhone jogging with you.

Verdict: Recommended.

Note: It looks as though Belkin have introduced a slightly updated version that has a larger key pocket and is also compatible with the iPod touch. So be sure to take a look at both if you’re looking for a running case.
